A reference library with over 15,000 volumes can be consulted, as can more than 175 Special Collections that focus on history, science, nature, and art relative to Staten Island. Some of the most important collections utilized include: Staten Island Ferries and Railroads, Churches and Cemeteries, Architectural Survey Collection, Genealogies: Staten Island Families, 1597-Present, Newspaper Collections: 1834-Present, Biographies of Staten Islanders, 1851-1945, the William T. Davis Collection, and the George W. Curtis Collection. Maps and atlases, wills and deeds, census records, family bibles, cemetery and church records, city and county directories, military muster rolls and enlistment records, and numerous other documents, papers, and records are available to aid researchers.
