My name is Shaina Sanchez and I am fortunate enough to be one of Uzeeum’s newest interns! I am a recent graduate of the University at Albany with a B.A. in Communications. Although I was raised in Jamaica, Queens (about an hour train ride from Manhattan) I call New York City my home. There is no other place in the world that can provide you with endless food options, shopping, art, music, and a myriad of cultures 24/7. Living in upstate New York for four years has taught me that there is definitely no place like New York City. It is our duty as enlightened New Yorkers to educate others about the beauty in our diversity.
During the fall semester of my senior year, like any other anxious college student, I found myself at a depressing and fearful state. Graduation was 6 months away and I still had no Plan-A nor Plan-B! I was never academically inclined, but I was heavily involved in interculturalism and the arts. I had gone to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School (the Fame School) for vocal music, but did not think music was in the cards for me after attending a traditional state university. It was 4am in apartment when I realized the only thing that will truly make me happy is going after a career in recording music. So here I am, 22 years old, finding my way through this big city and I am ready to take on the world!
